The 14th Amendment being established and the formation of the KKK were stand out changes after the Civil War.
The 14th Amendment allowed for any one born in the United States to be awarded with both citizenship and equality. Although, it did not include women or black women, the Amendment did introduced a whole new demographic to be “allowed” to vote. It also stated that no one person would be denied the freedoms of life and liberty, this was critical for the newly freed slaves. Who can imagine the feeling?
While the Amendment was being introduced, the formation of the KKK began. Their hatred and destruction shows how strong the opposition’s mindset was. Then, and still today, these groups of individuals threaten the livelihoods of minorities and any one who supports the Civil Rights efforts.
Its important to see that with good comes evil and hate. Without the hatred of the KKK, we wouldn’t have great individuals like Lincoln, MLK Jr. or Susan B. Anthony. Men who did ordinary things at an unordinary time.

Vices Jamie Johnson
"The world we live in today with its digital cameras and iPhones, everyone is a photographer, I find that photography is losing its artistic vision and beauty. As a photographer and a photography collector, I often find myself obsessed with old cameras and old techniques. I like to challenge myself by trying new cameras and new ideas using the amazing history of photography. I find myself using my digital camera only for work these days and otherwise working strictly with vintage cameras and film.
This series “Vices” was photographed with a wet plate collodion process that I feel illustrated the magical innocence of youth alongside the darker recesses of human nature. A vintage perspective on childhood, punishments with a little humor.”
